Risk Reduction Resources

SIDS risk reduction and safe sleep materials including booklets, handouts, research articles, commentary reviews, curricula and audio-visual resources are listed below. You will find resources developed by the California SIDS Program in addition to those produced by national, state and local organizations. Click on the links below to view the description, download the resource as a PDF or HTML file and/or connect directly to the individual item. All California SIDS Program resources can be downloaded, duplicated and/or distributed without permission. Many of the resources contained in this section are free and can be ordered, viewed and/or copied. Limited quantities of select materials may be requested from the California SIDS Program such as the National Safe to Sleep campaign booklets, tear pads and doorknob hangers.   Continuing Education Program on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Risk Reduction: Curriculum for Nurses
This free continuing education (CE) program on SIDS risk reduction for nurses was developed by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development as part of the Safe to Sleep (formerly Back to Sleep) campaign. This course can be taken online or viewed, downloaded or ordered as a booklet. Upon completion of the course nurses can receive1.1 CE credit hours.

  Toolkit for Community Health Providers: Engaging Ethnic Media to Inform Communities about Safe Infant Sleep
This resource from the National Center for Cultural Competence provides some guidance on how to engage ethnic media so that you can make the greatest impact through your outreach activities. The focus of the toolkit is on strategies to help you reach those communities most at risk for sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) - African-Americans; Hispanics/Latinos, particularly Puerto Ricans; and Native Americans - but the principles shared can be applied when reaching out to media in any community.
