  • Public Awareness and Education: The California SIDS Program has developed a variety of educational materials including pamphlets, curricula, training guides, and other grief, bereavement and risk reduction resources. Many of these educational and informative materials can be downloaded and reproduced. Selected resources have been designed for non-English speaking populations. The Program maintains up-to-date information on SIDS, published journal articles and current research information.

A variety of grief materials are available for bereaved individuals experiencing the sudden unexpected death of an infant. An array of handouts, instructional and educational resources for professionals involved with SIDS are readily accessible. Materials targeting families of newborns, expectant parents and caregivers provide guidelines for recommended maternal and infant care practices to reduce the risk of SIDS.

The California SIDS Program maintains a roster of speakers for informational presentations; brings the newest information and support resources to public health professionals through regular Director Messages; and conducts the Annual California Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Conference each October.

  • Training and Consultation: Training sessions provided by the California SIDS Program equip public health professionals and emergency personnel with the skills and knowledge to respond in an appropriate, sensitive manner to those impacted by a SIDS tragedy. Technical assistance and consultation are available to assist those involved with SIDS to better understand and cope with the many issues that surround a baby's death. Please visit Education to learn more about our upcoming training events.

  • Research: The California SIDS Program encourages research by collecting SIDS data and promoting the exchange of the most current scientific information surrounding SIDS and its cause(s). Please visit SIDS and Professionals to explore the facts about SIDS and obtain information about the latest research studies. Learn how research into risk factors and the Back to Sleep Campaign have significantly reduced the incidence of SIDS deaths in California.
